Why Mindfulness?
The human experience is filled with a wide range of emotional moments. Moments to feel happiness, love, contentment, boredom, sadness, grief, anxiety, and everything in between. But how aware are we of these moments? And how do we relate to the experience?
For example, If a moment of anger leads me to replay every time i've felt angry, am I noticing how this is making the moment more difficult to tolerate?
Or maybe while on a restful vacation I find myself not wanting the moment to end out of fear that I may not feel it again. Am I aware of how clinging to the moment is making my emotional distress worse?
While pain is not avoidable, bringing awareness to our thoughts, habits, urges and emotions allows us to understand ourselves better and change patterns of suffering. By doing this we aren't just improving our relationship with ourselves, we are also allowing ourselves to have a better relationship with life.
Benefits of an ongoing mindfulness practice are:
Emotional regulation
Decreased stress, anxiety and depression
Improved focus
Mental clarity
Stronger relationship with self and others
Decreased reactivity
Improved cognitive flexibility
